Pitmaster Christopher Prieto teams up with Tyler Ashton, the experienced leader behind Rodney Scott’s BBQ’s multi-state operations, to bring together two powerhouse BBQ traditions in an exciting festival collaboration.
Christopher Prieto is a celebrated pitmaster, cookbook author, TV personality, and “40 Under 40” award winner known for his destination-worthy Prime Barbecue in Knightdale, North Carolina. Since opening Prime Barbecue in 2020, Prieto has earned accolades such as Southern Living’s “South’s Top 50 Barbecue Joints” and Texas Monthly’s recognition as a top Texas-style BBQ spot outside Texas.
Blending his Puerto Rican heritage with his Texas roots and North Carolina home, Prieto expanded in 2023 with Primo Latin Cuisine, and will launch Prime STQ in 2025, a steakhouse-barbecue fusion. A Master Certified Barbecue Judge and multiple grand champion, Prieto’s 14-year competitive career includes appearances on Food Network’s BBQ Pitmasters, BBQ Brawl, and Chopped.
Author of Southern Living’s Ultimate Book of BBQ, Prieto’s restaurants serve a variety of authentic barbecue styles crafted with custom smokers and family-inspired scratch sides. Committed to sharing his passion, he teaches sold-out classes and supports veterans through the Wounded Warriors Project.
