Pat Martin is a celebrated pitmaster and independent restaurateur dedicated to preserving West Tennessee-style whole hog barbecue. He founded Martin’s Bar-B-Que Joint, which began as a 950-square-foot spot in Nolensville, TN, and has grown to six locations in Nashville plus outposts in Birmingham, Louisville, and Charleston. Known for scratch-made, open-flame cooking, Martin’s menus are rooted in deep Southern tradition.

In 2017, Pat opened Hugh Baby’s BBQ & Burger Shop, honoring classic Mid-South barbecue and burger joints, with locations in Nashville and Charleston. In 2023, he partnered to launch SweetMilk, serving traditional Southern breakfast favorites inspired by his grandmother’s recipes, including hand-cut, cast-iron-baked biscuits.

Pat is also the author of Life of Fire: Mastering the Arts of Pit-Cooked Barbecue, The Grill, and The Smokehouse (2022), a beautifully photographed guide to authentic barbecue techniques. He stars in the TV series Barbecue: Life of Fire (now streaming Season 2 on Tastemade), which highlights traditional, slow-cooked barbecue methods and the people who keep these time-honored practices alive.
